Women Artists Week

Artists’ School is proud to partner with American Women Artists to offer 3- day
workshops by Master Signature and Signature Members December 3-5, 2008. American
Women Artists is a non-profit organization dedicated to the inspiration,
celebration and encouragement of women in the arts. All AWA members and
Scottsdale Artists’ School students are welcome to participate in these
workshops. Each workshop costs $355 and there is a $10 registration fee. For

The Art of
Western Art
All drawing
and painting media: Beginner to Advanced
The focus
of this workshop is on the elements of art (color, composition, brushwork,
values etc.) using western art as our subject. You may bring your own western
art resource material (photographs, studies, even still life objects!) and there
will also be some provided. All 2-D artists at all levels are welcome in this
class.
SUZANNE
BAKER has painted professionally for over twenty years. She is known for her
Western subjects, and draws inspiration from her own experience as a horse
trainer and rancher in California Her work has appeared in numerous magazines
including Art of the West and she is represented by Legacy Gallery, Scottsdale,
AZ.

Bowen
Still Lifes
with Personality
Oil
painting: Beginner to Intermediate
This class
will be fun and full of inspiration. Students will practice setting up creative
still lifes with help from the instructor. Bowen will give two short
demonstrations; drawing on Wednesday and painting on Thursday. The rest of the
class time will be spent on individual instruction. One evening will be spent at
Bowen’s studio for a group critique with refreshments. Please bring a small
painting or a photo of one of your paintings from home.
GINGER
BOWEN, Signature member of American Women Artists, is well-known for her playful
sense of humor and whimsical subject matter. Her paintings have won awards at
the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and International Guild of Realism.
Bowen is represented by Principle Gallery, Alexandria, VA; Gallery MAR, Park
City, UT; J. Howell Fine Art, Healdsburg, CA and Gallery at Rich Designs,

Landscape
Painting: Studio and Plein Air
Pastel or
oil painting: Intermediate
This
workshop is structured for the serious landscape painting artist. Students will
learn and practice how to make and use value and color studies to solve problems
on a small scale. This skill is very effective and will help you get excited
about making a larger piece from the studies! If weather permits, we will work
outdoors for two of the three days. Please bring a portable easel.
COLLEEN HOWE studied painting at Brigham Young University and the University of
Utah, and pastels with Doug Dawson and Sally Strand. She is a Signature member
of the Pastel Society of America and American Women Artists. She was recently
featured in The Pastel Journal and American Artist. Website:

Animal
Sculpture
Oil-based
clay: Beginner to Intermediate
Students
learn best when they are truly interested in the subject on which they are
working so you may pick any animal subject you like for this class. We will
cover everything from the creation of an armature, to understanding anatomy, how
to select and use reference materials, composition, various clays and tools, how
to create the surface details of fur, feathers, scales, etc. The workshop will
be have a nurturing, fun atmosphere so all students can learn and have success.

D. MASON is a Signature member of the Society of Animal Artists and American
Women Artists. She was featured in the April 2008 issue of Southwest Art
and her work is in public collections in Hawaii, Michigan, South Carolina,
